THE NOSE CLINIC ENJOYS A UNIQUE INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION IN SOUTH AFRICA

We’re a specialized clinic – long established and one of only a few in the world –  with an exclusive focus on rhinoplasty. Our theatre, designed by rhinoplasty specialist, Dr Pieter Swanepoel and his theatre team, in collaboration with the South African Department of Health, is equipped purely and specially for rhinoplasty – cosmetic, or plastic surgery to improve the shape of your nose, reconstructive and functional surgery for breathing difficulties, and if you’ve undergone surgery performed elsewhere by another surgeon, and you’re disappointed with the result, revision surgery.

Operating in this special single purpose theatre – equipped with state of the art technology – we’ve addressed nasal surgery in all its various forms and complexities with enviable, consistently good results. It’s a reputation we’re rather proud of. We earned it by mastering a complex specialty characterized by 3-dimensional artistic skills and intricate medical technique. It is both simple and challenging, both simple and complex, and ultimately one of the most satisfying fields in cosmetic surgery.

THE BENEFITS AND ADVANTAGES OF SPECIALIZATION

SPECIALIZED FOCUS

The Nose Clinic’s surgeon has specialized on nasal plastic surgery for 40 years, and is one of only a few surgeons in the world with an exclusive focus on plastic nose surgery.

Having undergone advanced Rhinoplasty training and mentoring in the USA, Dr Swanepoel is an international member of the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). He has been a regular participant in AAFPRS sponsored continuing education seminars designed to develop and refine Rhinoplasty techniques, and has presented papers to the Academy on techniques pioneered at the Nose Clinic.

Dr Chris Smit, responsible for surgical procedures at the clinic, qualified as an ENT specialist surgeon at the University of Pretoria in 1973, and as did Dr Swanepoel, underwent advanced training in the USA, the UK and Europe. He refined his rhinoplasty skills with ‘one on one’ instruction and the guidance from select surgeons in The United States and Europe.

For this reason (and not practicing as a general plastic surgeon), Dr Swanepoel is not a member of The Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa (The APRSSA).

NO TIME-CONSUMING MULTIPLE CONSULTATIONS

A specialist surgeon, working in a specialized facility and with a specially trained surgical team eliminates the need for multiple consultations. If you want both cosmetic and functional surgery, our surgeon will take full responsibly for both procedures.

COMPUTER IMAGING

Don’t guess. The Nose Clinic uses advanced computer-imaging technology, the Mirror 2000 system, to simulate the proposed rhinoplasty result. This allows our clients to preview potential results, participate in planning, and take home color prints that illustrate the difference between their existing appearance and the proposed changes.

ONE CONSOLIDATED QUOTATION

There is no need to worry about nasty surprises in the final fee!  The Nose Clinic’s all-inclusive quotation covers the costs of surgery, the specialized operating theatre, the specialist anesthetist, and theatre sister, and all intra-operative medications and post-operative consultations for an entire year.

SOUTH AFRICAN AND INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

The Nose Clinic is a duly registered surgi-clinic, maintained to meet international medical benchmarks in the field of rhinoplasty. We comply in every respect with the medical and ethical standards historically associated with South African medical practice.

COLLABORATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

We are both registered with the South African Department of Health, and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (Registration number 0105210). The Department of Health inspects our dedicated theatre annually, and approves all modifications. Since inception more than a decade ago, we have not had a single case of sepsis in our theatre.

PIONEERS OF LOCAL ANESTHETIC

Nasal surgery is usually conducted in hospital under general anesthesia. But this inherently risky, gas-induced procedure can have debilitating side effects. The Nose Clinic, by contrast, offers a safe, swift and pain-free alternative — conscious sedation. This form of surgical sedation for rhinoplasty, pioneered and perfected by our expert team, and now used internationally, allows us to operate under the most optimal outpatient conditions conceivable. Our patients – discharged just a few hours after surgery – consequently bleed less during surgery, don’t bruise or swell as easily, and recovery sooner.

OPTIMIZED HUMP REMOVAL TECHNIQUES

We’ve optimized, and categorized nasal hump removal procedures to eliminate unnecessary surgery. For example, a ‘tip rotation’ will often resolve a Pseudo’ hump A hump removal, as we understand it, is not necessary,

TEAM APPROACH

Equipment alone does not ensure good result. Our surgeon, a specialist in both cosmetic and functional reconstruction, works with the support of a surgical team who, as a team, have refined their skills for one purpose; to deliver consistent results in a complex field where the only goal that matters is a good result.

CONVENIENTLY SITUATED

We’re an easy 45-minute drive from the Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Contact us. You will find us located, quite unlike a typical hospital, on a wooded estate in a private nature reserve on Lynnwood Road east of Pretoria.
