BACKGROUND
Specialisation and regular practice prepares the foundation for success and good, consistent results. Compare this to a professional golfer. Ask yourself who is more likely to succeed? The golfer who strolls the greens once a fortnight or the professional who, every day, rain or shine, practices his driving and putting skills?
When it comes to nose surgery, Dr Swanepoel is like the golfer; an expert and experienced professional honing his skills day after day. Expertise and dedicated professionalism like this is a deciding factor when weighing a decision about a surgical procedure that could affect your health, appearance and wellbeing for the remainder of your life.
A FAMILY OF SURGEONS
Dr Swanepoel grew up in a family of doctors; nearly a century of family influence. Completing his medical studies at South Africa’s prestigious Stellenbosch University, he specialised solely on nasal surgery and furthered his studies in London and specialist centres in the USA. With 30 years of dedicated experience in his field, Dr Swanepoel is one of the world’s few rhinoplasty specialists with formal all-round training, experience and expertise for all forms of nasal surgery — cosmetic, functional, reconstructive and revision.
This is a field that medical experts define as one of the most technically and intellectually demanding forms of surgery. Achieving consistently good results requires considerable talent, dedicated practice, and advanced training. Dr Swanepoel benefited early on in his career from working with, and learning from some of the world’s very best rhinoplasty surgeons in the United Sates. Now, himself an expert, he mentors other surgeons and contributing to the furthering of the GOLD STANDARD he established at the Nose Clinic.
THE EXPERT’S EXPERT
Dr Swanepoel is the only surgeon in the history of South African cosmetic surgery to have been invited on several occasions by both the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in the United Kingdom and the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (AAFPRS) to lecture on some of his pioneering work in rhinoplasty. He has published several articles both in local and international medical and surgical journals, and he has operated on closed-circuit TV in front of specialist surgeon audiences

PIONEERING RESEARCH
Local anaesthetic. In 1995, Dr Swanepoel and his anaesthetist , Dr Reinach began their pioneering work on an immensely successful and internationally recognised computer-aided local anaesthetic application for nasal surgery — the result of extensive research.
Grafting materials. Thanks to his profound fascination with his area of expertise, Dr Swanepoel is engaged in ongoing research on the use of grafting materials — lyophilised rib cartilage, pericardium, demineralised iliac bone, and Alloderm — in reconstructive and/or revision surgery.
