Dr Pieter Swanepoel and Dr Chris Smit, have combined their specialist skills to focus exclusively on nasal surgery – cosmetic, functional and revision.
FROM A FAMILY OF SURGEONS
Dr Swanepoel, the founder of the Nose Clinic, and the surgeon, responsible for the Clinic’s expert pre-operative assessments, grew up in a family of noted local doctors, and completed his medical studies at South Africa’s prestigious Stellenbosch University. Qualifying as an ENT specialist at the University of Pretoria, he elected to specialize in nasal surgery and furthered his Rhinoplasty studies in London and the USA, gaining valuable practical experience under the mentorship of leading American surgeons and by attending advanced Rhinoplasty programs run by the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Today he and Dr Smit, the Clinic’s surgeon, are two of only a few rhinoplasty specialists in the world with formal all-round training, experience and advanced expertise in all forms of nasal surgery — cosmetic, functional, reconstructive and revision.
Over more than 40 years, Dr Swanepoel has performed thousands of Rhinoplasty procedures, presented medical papers and lectures to professional audiences in South Africa, the UK and The USA and pioneered several significant developments in the field of Rhinoplasty (including conscious sedation and laminated beam grafts; both published as papers in the American Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery). Now retired from active surgery, he remains responsible for all clinical assessments on patients (the diagnosis) prior to surgery, and continues to mentor and share his extensive experience with aspiring surgeons. He is an international member of the AAFPRS.
DR CHRIS SMIT
Specialist Rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr Chris Smit, is responsible for surgery at the Nose Clinic. He qualified as an ENT specialist at the University of Pretoria, and then travelled to the UK, Europe and the USA for advanced Rhinoplasty training and mentorship under American surgeons noted for their mastery of advanced surgical techniques.
Practicing in Pretoria, he’s performed more than 4000 Rhinoplasty procedures, specializing today in cosmetic, revision and post-traumatic Rhinoplasty. He’s lectured at numerous medical congresses, and select small groups in South Africa, and is a consultant to both the University of Pretoria ENT Department, and the Pretoria Academic Hospital.
